Don’t Touch My Fish is a simple arcade game in which you play as an environmentalist treasure hunter looking to rid the ocean of trash and treasure. Just make sure to avoid those fish! You have a cash quota to meet at each level. Use the cash you collect to buy power-ups at your local Tiki Shop but make sure you have enough to meet your goals.
Power-Ups
Power-Ups can be found or purchased after each level. Prices of every item vary randomly. With the exception of Scissors and Fish Food, the effects of each item wears off after each level.
- Scissors: Use scissors to cut your line and free accidently caught fish. Scissors are stored until ready to use.
- Fish Food: Feed the fish to slow them down. Fish Food is stored until ready to use.
- Laser: Attach this item to your harpoon to show your spear’s path.
- Treasure Map: Magically reveals the contents of treasure chests
- Recycler: Gives you a chance to turn TRASH into TREASURE. Your odds increase by the following actions...
- Buying a new recycler in the Tiki Shop
- Completing a level without touching a fish
- Ancient Ruins: Slows down the FISH SPAWN RATE
Trash, Treasure, and Fish
- Trash: These items vary in size and type. Collecting trash is not worth money (unless you have the recycler) but if you collect enough trash then you will get the upgraded harpoon for that level.
- Treasure Chest: These vary in size and content. Some Treasure Chests are empty. The smallest ones are worth 25 and the largest are worth 100.
- Message in a Bottle: Contains random items or money values.
- Fish: Fish are fun characters in each level that MUST NOT BE TOUCHED. If you catch a fish then you will lose all the material you need for the upgraded Harpoon and reset the speed at which the fish spawn.
- Naval Mines: Hitting these will destroy all nearby treasure. Like the fish, you should avoid these as much as possible.
Fish Spawn Rate
- The time (in seconds) that a new fish will spawn.
- Fish spawn at a faster rate at each new level; however, you can slow that down in the level by collecting trash
- You can permanently slow down the fish spawn rate by buying Ancient Ruins in the Tiki Shop

Quick thoughts after a couple levels. I think it has a good amount of potential. Think fish should knock items off hook if they collide. Your rewarded more for picking up treasure over trash which kicks you right out of the theme. Makes you feel greedy. Purchasing items is confusing. While it took a second to figure out how to buy stuff, I got really confused when the same items were back on the next level. I guess I have to buy for each level but not sure. I found a can of something and clicked on it but no idea what it does. The level did end right when I was trying to use it. I also don't understand why things are invisible. It's got a great vibe to it and I want it to be better so that's really good. The highscore screen is bugged. Can't get out of it. Wants me to change name but I can't type or exit. Never hit a fish and I don't know if I was supposed to or not. Given the theme, I felt like I shouldn't but the fact that I don't know after a few levels is interesting. The game also ended on me when I hit a chest. I have no idea why it ended.
This is fantastic feedback! Thank you! I’m going to answer all of your thoughts/questions however the fact that I need to answer them says that I have LOT to do to get this game in prime time shape lol — I for sure want it to be intuitive to the player so you feedback is exactly what I need to know
1. fish knocking off items: I honestly never thought about that. It for sure sounds like an interesting mechanic that I could add for like a hammerhead shark or a type of fish in the later levels
2. Treasure over trash: I’ve struggled with the balance of the game. The idea is to get enough treasure to advance levels. Collecting the trash makes your harpoon faster and makes the fish spawn at a slower rate making the level easier. I have to work on making this feel right to the player
3. Purchasing items: I for sure need to make this clearer to the player. All items except for the fish food and scissors are only good for one level
4. Cans—- the cans in the level is just more trash
5. Level ending: the levels are only 30 seconds long so they end as soon as your timer runs out. I am changing it to where if you shoot the harpoon right at the last second then the level will continue until the harpoon is reeled all the way up
6. Invisible: nothing should be invisible — that might be a bug I’m not aware of
7. Highscore screen: if you’re playing on your phone then you can’t change your name because I have not coded a virtual keyboard for HTML… on the computer it works perfectly and I have the iOS version on my phone which also works perfectly but is not yet available for the public. Clicking off the highscore screen should take you out of that screen. I have to make that more clear
8. The game ends if you don’t meet your quota. So if your target is $200 and you only get $150 then the game will end.
9. Touching the fish: yes, touching the fish is bad. It makes your harpoon slower
10. It means a lot to me that you would play a few levels and take the time to give me feedback! Thank you so much!!!!!!
Very nice, but I think there is still a little bit of polish missing, some sounds when catching a fish, transition/screen when the time is over...
I appreciate you taking the time to comment. You are 100% right. There is still so much I have left to add. I have copy of the game on iOS but I have not released it yet as I want to get it completely finished/polished (and maybe even a publisher) before that happens. More to come! Thanks for giving it a go!
